Nesquehoning rallies to raise funds for Go Joe 27 tour
It was a day of coming together for a good cause. On Wednesday, hundreds of residents from around the area gathered outside Narrow Valley Sportsplex in Nesquehoning to welcome WNEP meteorologist Joe Snedeker on his next leg of Go Joe 27, a bicycle fundraiser he completes to raise money for the St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton. The center serves people who are diagnosed with intellectual disability and those who seek pregnancy support, adoption assistance, outpatient therapy or medical day care services.

Camp Cadet in focus
For more than 30 years, boys and girls from 12 to 15 have been attending State Police Troop R Camp Cadet for one week each summer, experiencing hands-on activities and learning teamwork and discipline. This year camp is being held at Marywood University, where participants engage in daily activities which include a 2-mile run and physical fitness routines. Campers are also treated to presentations from agencies from various fields, including law enforcement and emergency services personnel. On Thursday, campers visited a shooting range. The week long adventure will conclude on Friday.

A Quilt of Valor was presented to Wapwallopen resident Sgt. Timothy J. Ammons by Marie Shulenski, group leader of the Hazleton Area Chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Shulenski was joined by Quilt of Valor member Debbie Kessell, as they represented members and volunteers all over the country. The organization began in 2003, when a quilter named Catherine Roberts started the movement as her son was deployed in Iraq. The Board of Directors of Mauch Chunk Trust Financial Corp. have released earnings results for the corporation for the period ended June 30. Net income for the three months ended June 30, was $253,000, $670,000 lower than the same period in 2023. On a per share basis, net income was 8 cents this year versus 28 cents last year.

This was the message conveyed by A.J. Heightman, executive director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services Council during the formal dedication of the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad and Ambulance Corps’ newest equipment, a 1986 Excellence Golden Eagle Type III ambulance and a 1974 GMC rescue truck.
