Much needed water system upgrade coming to Masontown this year
MASONTOWN, W.Va. A fire at the old Masontown School did little damage Wednesday afternoon, but the availability of water to fight the blaze was a concern. In a post on social media, members of the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department said the water system was down for maintenance at the time of the fire, so tanker support was requested. Volunteers from Masontown were able to quickly knock the fire down before tankers arrived.

Hot and sunny holiday weekend, more rain next week
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - The stalling cold front that’s been responsible for the past few days of rain and storms will finally make its way out of our region by Saturday morning, but not before dropping a bit more rain and thunderstorm activity on us Friday night. Thunderstorms could wield heavy rain and gusty winds, but mostly in isolated cases. Some patchy fog is likely Saturday morning before giving way to a mostly sunny afternoon with highs in the mid-upper 80s lowlands, upper 70s mountains. Sunday will be similar, though with temperatures kicked up a few degrees. Both days will have a UV index of 10, so if you plan to be outdoors, apply sunscreen frequently, stay hydrated, and take breaks from direct sun exposure. Kicking off the next work week, temps will climb a few more degrees, but our chance of convective showers will be on the rise, especially in the mountains, so it may not be a totally dry day. Humidity will be increasing as well. Rain and thunderstorms will become more apparent area-wide by Tuesday, and will likely stick around for the remainder of the week. This will bring temperatures back to the mid-upper 80s rather than the 90s, but humidity could still make it feel like the 90s.
