Simplot To Close California Plant
Boise-based Simplot will close a manufacturing plant in California, and separately close a number of its Simplot Grower Solutions locations. The company announced last year it would shut down its plant in Lathrop, California. The plant is part Company’s Mining & Manufacturing division and makes fertilizer, feed phosphates and industrial products. According to BoiseDev, the Lathrop plant will close by the end of the month, and 150 positions will be eliminated.
Student arrested for bringing gun to Visalia high school, police say
A student is in custody after being accused of bringing a gun onto a high school campus in Visalia on Monday.A Visalia police youth services officer at Golden West High School was alerted to a social media post showing a student with a gun at 9 am.The student was found and arrested.Authorities say they searched the student's car in the school parking lot - and found a handgun with no serial number in the center console.Police say the investigation is ongoing, but there is no threat to students or staff.They also served a search warrant at the home of the student's father and found an illegal marijuana grow, ammunition, and another gun with no serial number.The 47-year-old father was arrested on multiple charges.
Fresno State study examines how water recharge could help or harm disadvantaged communities on a regional scale
A study examining the benefits and drawbacks of building groundwater recharge basins near rural communities is underway in Merced, Madera, Tulare and Fresno counties. The two-year study is a spinoff of an earlier feasibility study focused solely on Fresno County, and both are spearheaded by the California Water Institute at Fresno State University.
