Powerful Winds to Rattle Wyoming Today as High Wind Warning Takes Effect

Strong winds and potential power outages expected across Natrona County and surrounding regions.

Brace for Impact: Wyoming Hit with High Winds

[RIVERTON] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 1:05 AM MDT on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

    High Wind Warning in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a High Wind Warning for Natrona County and the Green Mountains and Rattlesnake Range areas, which will remain in effect until noon MDT today. Residents of Jeffrey City and Casper should prepare for Southwest winds between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 60 mph.

    Impacts on Residents and Travelers

The NWS warns that the high winds could bring widespread power outages as trees and power lines may be downed. Travelers, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles, are advised to exercise extreme caution as road conditions could quickly become hazardous.

    Weather Conditions Today and Tomorrow

In addition to the high winds, lingering rain showers and even mountain snow will persist through much of the day in parts of Western and Central Wyoming. However, as the day progresses, gusty winds will begin to diminish after noon, with lighter winds expected by sunset.

The probability of hazardous weather beyond today is low, offering a temporary reprieve for the region.

    Safety Tips and Spotter Information

The NWS encourages local weather spotters to report any significant weather conditions as per the Standard Operating Procedures.
