Rainy Start to the Week: Southeast Michigan Faces Showers and Thunderstorm Threat

Showers and possible thunderstorms are expected to hit Southeast Michigan this week, with a brief respite before more rain moves in.

Unsettled Weather Continues Across Southeast Michigan

DETROIT — Issued by the National Weather Service at 5:47 AM EDT on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Rain and Clouds Dominate the Start of the Week

Southeast Michigan will see a mix of showers and possible thunderstorms early this week as the region finds itself sandwiched between a high-pressure system over the Great Lakes and a stalled frontal zone over the Ohio Valley. Cloud cover will persist throughout Monday, with showers likely by Tuesday morning.

Despite the rain, temperatures will remain seasonable, with highs ranging from the upper 60s to lower 70s. Late-day breaks in the cloud cover are possible, but don’t leave your umbrella at home—more rain is on the way.

    Thunderstorms Possible on Tuesday

A mid-level weather disturbance will move into the region on Tuesday, bringing a chance of non-severe thunderstorms and a potential for heavy rain, especially in the Thumb region. Residents should be prepared for low visibility and wet roads during the morning commute.

    Marine Advisory in Effect

Strong north-northwest winds across Lake Huron could lead to elevated wave heights, prompting a Small Craft Advisory until 10 PM tonight. Boaters should exercise caution and stay updated on local weather conditions.

Looking Ahead: More Rain Before the Weekend

As the week progresses, expect another round of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with a possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Conditions are expected to dry out briefly by midweek before another weather system potentially brings more precipitation over the weekend.
