Warm-Up Ahead for Duluth as Dry Conditions Persist Across Northland

The National Weather Service forecasts a warmer and drier week for the Northland, with temperatures climbing 10-15 degrees above normal.

Temperatures Soar as the Northland Stays Dry

[DULUTH] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 6:41 AM CDT on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Northland Experiences Unseasonable Warmth and Dry Conditions

The Northland is set for an unseasonably warm and dry spell this week, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures are expected to rise significantly, reaching up to 15 degrees above normal by mid-week. This warming trend is anticipated to continue into the weekend, offering a stark contrast to the usual fall weather pattern.

Upper Level Trough to Bring Minimal Precipitation

An upper-level trough will move through the Northern Plains today, but with limited moisture, the chances of precipitation remain low. The National Weather Service reports that most of the Northland will stay dry, with only a slight 20-30% chance of light showers in western areas, primarily the Brainerd Lakes region, extending up to the International Border.

Frost Advisory in Effect for Parts of the Region

Despite the warming trend, temperatures could still dip low enough to trigger frost in some areas, particularly the Arrowhead region and interior portions of northwest Wisconsin. A Frost Advisory is in effect until 8 AM CDT today for these zones. Patchy frost may recur if cloud cover thins out, allowing for cooler overnight lows.

Marine Conditions Remain Calm on Lake Superior

Mariners can expect relatively calm conditions on Lake Superior this week, with wind speeds at or below 15 knots and wave heights generally under three feet. Winds will shift from easterly today to southerly tonight, becoming onshore again by Tuesday. No significant periods of stronger winds are forecast through the rest of the week.
