After a Damp Start ,Unseasonably Warm Weather Set to Stay in Upper Michigan – Here’s What to Expect

Upper Michigan will experience above-normal temperatures and dry weather through the weekend, with only a slight chance of showers in the east.

Sunny Skies and Warmer Temperatures for the U.P.

MARQUETTE — Issued by the National Weather Service at 4:46 AM EDT on September 24, 2024.

Upper Michigan Set for a Stretch of Warm and Dry Weather

Upper Michigan residents can look forward to a week of pleasant weather as high pressure dominates the region, keeping conditions dry and sunny. The National Weather Service forecasts a low chance (15-30%) of isolated showers today and tonight in the far eastern part of the U.P., but overall, the region will enjoy mostly clear skies and temperatures well above average for late September.

The current high-pressure system over the area will maintain control, resulting in mild mornings and comfortable afternoons. Highs are expected to reach the upper 60s today, with overnight lows dropping into the mid to upper 40s, slightly warmer than the previous few nights. The warm, dry trend will continue through the week, with highs climbing into the 70s and even approaching 80 degrees in some spots by Thursday.

Limited Rain Chances in the East as Low-Pressure System Passes South

A low-pressure system moving through Lower Michigan and Lake Huron may bring a few light showers to eastern Upper Michigan, especially near Munising and Fairport tonight. However, the best dynamics for rain will stay to the south, and any precipitation is expected to be light and isolated. Most of the region will remain dry, with partly cloudy skies and a chance of patchy fog in the early morning hours.

Sunny and Warm Conditions to Continue Into the Weekend

The extended forecast shows a continuation of warm and dry weather as a mid-level ridge builds over the Great Lakes. Highs are expected to reach the mid-70s, with some locations potentially seeing temperatures close to 80 degrees from Thursday through Saturday. This unseasonably warm weather will persist into the weekend, making it a perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities across the U.P.

Next Chance of Rain Possible Early Next Week

Although this week will be mostly dry, a low-pressure system moving into the region from the Rockies could bring the next significant chance of rain early next week. Current models suggest that this system could impact the Upper Peninsula by Monday or Tuesday, but details remain uncertain at this time.
