Warm weather continues today, with rain chances increasing by Friday night.

Sunny and Warm Before Rain Returns to Southeast Michigan

[DETROIT] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:18 AM EDT on September 26, 2024.

Southeast Michigan will enjoy mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s today as high pressure moves across the region. The pleasant weather will last through Friday afternoon before clouds and rain showers arrive, especially for areas south of I-96 and I-696.

Sunny and Warm Today with Highs in the Upper 70s

High pressure centered over the Midwest is bringing dry and stable conditions to Southeast Michigan. Most areas will see abundant sunshine, with only a few passing clouds. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 70s by this afternoon, making for a pleasant early fall day. A light northeasterly breeze will keep conditions comfortable.

Rain Showers Possible Friday Night into Saturday

Rain chances will increase late Friday as the remnants of Hurricane Helene track northward into the Ohio Valley. Showers are expected to develop mainly in the southern parts of the region, including Monroe and Lenawee counties. Rainfall amounts are forecasted to be light, with only a few hundredths of an inch expected. However, a few isolated rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out.

Breezy Conditions Expected on Lake Erie

The approaching low pressure system will tighten the pressure gradient over Lake Erie, leading to gusty winds of 25-30 knots Friday into Saturday morning. A Small Craft Advisory may be issued, and boaters are advised to exercise caution.

Cooler and Drier Conditions Expected Next Week

Temperatures will remain mild through the weekend, but a cold front is expected to bring cooler air to the region by midweek. Highs will drop to the low 70s, with overnight lows falling into the 50s, and even 40s in some rural areas. Drier conditions will prevail as high pressure builds over the Great Lakes.
