Hope You Like Fog—Kentucky Isn’t Done Yet! Then...a Cold Front Approaches

Widespread fog and light showers tonight with a cold front bringing cooler temperatures mid-week.

Visibility issues and a chance of scattered showers expected across Kentucky tonight and into Monday.

[LOUISVILLE] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 7:36 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

Widespread Dense Fog Expected Overnight Across Kentucky

Kentucky residents should prepare for dense fog tonight and into Monday morning. The National Weather Service is cautioning drivers to expect reduced visibility, particularly in areas south of I-64 where low visibility could significantly impact travel. Spotty rain showers will diminish as the evening progresses, but ground fog and low stratus clouds will likely linger until mid-morning on Monday. If the fog thickens rapidly, a Dense Fog Advisory may be issued.

With temperatures expected to dip into the upper 50s overnight, the cool, moist conditions combined with light winds and wet ground are creating an environment conducive to fog formation.

Dry Cold Front to Bring Cooler Temperatures Mid-Week

After the fog clears on Monday, expect seasonal temperatures in the 70s with patches of sunshine. However, another cold front is set to arrive on Tuesday, bringing isolated rain showers, particularly in the eastern part of the region. The cold front will usher in cooler weather for the remainder of the week, with highs closer to the 60s and 70s, aligning with early October averages.

"By Tuesday afternoon, a few scattered showers may linger east of I-65, but most of the region will remain dry," reported the National Weather Service. Once the front passes, expect clear skies and more stable conditions for the remainder of the week, with nights bringing the potential for light frost in some areas by week's end.

Calm and Seasonal Weather Ahead After Tuesday

Looking beyond mid-week, Kentucky can expect a return to more typical fall weather, with dry conditions dominating through Saturday. Daytime temperatures will remain comfortable, ranging from the 60s to 70s, while nighttime lows may dip into the 40s in some areas. There is some uncertainty about the weekend, as another system may try to bring cooler temperatures and a slight chance of rain by Sunday. However, confidence in this scenario remains low, with most forecasts predicting continued dry weather.
