Dense Fog and Drizzle Blanket Eastern Kentucky— But Sunshine’s on the Way Tomorrow!

Expect dense fog and patchy drizzle this morning in eastern Kentucky, with dry weather prevailing through Thursday night.

Fog and drizzle linger as a cold front passes through Kentucky, with cooler temperatures and clear skies expected by Thursday.

JACKSON, KY — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:28 AM EDT on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Patchy Fog and Drizzle to Impact Eastern Kentucky This Morning

Eastern Kentucky woke up to patchy dense fog this morning, particularly in the Kentucky Coalfields, as a weak cold front pushes through the region. Fog has formed in the valleys and along the ridges, reducing visibility significantly in some areas. Along with the fog, a low stratus deck is contributing to patchy drizzle, particularly in elevated areas. Morning temperatures range from the upper 50s in the north to the mid-60s in the south and east.

Dense Fog Returns Tonight as High Pressure Brings Calm Conditions

After a cooler day with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, the National Weather Service predicts dense fog to return late tonight and persist into Thursday morning. Clear skies and light winds will create ideal conditions for widespread fog formation across valleys and ridges. Low temperatures tonight will dip into the upper 40s in the northern hollows and the mid-50s in southern valleys.

Clear Skies and Warmer Temps Expected by Thursday

By Thursday, sunshine will return to Eastern Kentucky, with high temperatures ranging from the mid-70s north of the Mountain Parkway to the low 80s in the broader river valleys to the south. These clearer, warmer conditions are expected to continue through Thursday night.
