Warm Weather Continues Today, Storms Expected Over Weekend for Michigan's Thumb Region

Warm weather sticks around today, but storms could impact weekend plans in Michigan's Thumb. Stay informed on evolving conditions and local forecasts.

Temperatures Rise to the 70s Before a Rainy Weekend in Store

[DETROIT] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:50 AM EDT on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Rising Temps Today, Rain Possible by Sunday in Michigan's Thumb

Michigan's Thumb region is enjoying unseasonably warm weather today as temperatures climb well into the mid-70s. However, forecasts from the National Weather Service (NWS) indicate that the pleasant conditions may not last through the weekend.

A dry cold front is expected to move through the area this evening, though its impact will be minimal today. With clear skies and only light winds, temperatures will fall into the mid-40s to lower 50s overnight.

    Rain, Thunderstorms Possible This Weekend

The next significant weather system arrives Saturday night into Sunday, bringing with it the potential for rain showers across Michigan's Thumb region and surrounding areas. The upper-level trough approaching from the west may trigger scattered showers, with a more organized rain event expected to impact the area by Sunday morning.

While the cold front arrives during the early morning, possibly limiting instability, there is still a chance for thunderstorms. Wind gusts of 25-35 mph could accompany the passage of the front, particularly late Sunday and again on Monday as cooler air sweeps in behind the front.

Marine Conditions Favorable But Caution Advised

For boaters on Lake Huron, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect until noon today, with gusty southwest winds expected to ease as the low-pressure system moves out of the area. Conditions will remain unsettled into Friday with the potential for isolated showers. The NWS advises keeping an eye on evolving marine forecasts, as a stronger low-pressure system expected Sunday could bring gale-force winds to the region.
