Hurricane Milton forces massive evacuations along Florida’s west coast, as residents in Sarasota County are urged to act quickly.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL As Hurricane Milton intensifies and approaches major hurricane status, Sarasota County is preparing for one of the largest evacuation operations in recent memory. Residents living in Level A and potentially Level B evacuation zones, along with those in mobile homes, manufactured homes, or boat homes, have been urged to evacuate ahead of the storm. The official evacuation orders are expected to come soon as the storm threatens to make landfall with significant impact.

In a statement, county officials emphasized the seriousness of the situation. Emergency Services Director Rich Collins urged all at-risk residents to “implement your evacuation plan immediately”, warning that waiting until the last minute could result in gridlock on evacuation routes. "If your plan is to leave the area, do so now. This will be one of the largest evacuations along our state's west coast. If you wait, you will get stuck in traffic," Collins added.

Storm Preparations Ramp Up for Non-Evacuees

Residents not living in evacuation zones are advised to prepare their properties and gather emergency supplies, such as water, non-perishable food, and medications, for at least seven days. The county has also called on neighbors to work together to ensure everyone is prepared for the storm’s arrival.

With projections indicating that Hurricane Milton will be a major hurricane, Sarasota County officials continue to provide updates, warning residents that the storm could have widespread and severe impacts on the community.

For those uncertain of their evacuation level, the county is urging individuals to visit loom.ly/KkvV1ZI to find their designated evacuation zone.

Evacuations Expected to Intensify as Hurricane Milton Approaches

With the potential to be one of the most powerful storms to hit the Gulf Coast in years, Hurricane Milton is already sparking widespread concern. Sarasota County’s evacuation effort is expected to be one of the most extensive along the Florida west coast, highlighting the significant danger posed by this storm.

In anticipation of worsening conditions, Sarasota County has called on all residents to monitor local news and official communications from the county’s Emergency Services team for ongoing updates and evacuation orders.
