Lower Michigan braces for frost tonight as temperatures dip under high pressure. Warmer conditions expected by the weekend, but rain looms on the horizon.

Cold Nights Ahead in Lower Michigan as Frost Advisory Takes Effect

Detroit — Issued by the National Weather Service at 11:44 PM on October 8, 2024.

Frost Advisory in Effect with Clear Skies Over Lower Michigan

Lower Michigan is in for a chilly stretch of weather this week as high pressure moves in, bringing clear skies and cooler temperatures. A Frost Advisory has been issued for several counties, especially those farther from Lake Huron, where overnight lows could drop below freezing. Areas along the M-59 corridor and north are most likely to experience frost, with the advisory in effect until 9 AM Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a chance of frost will persist throughout Wednesday and Thursday nights, though slightly warmer temperatures are forecast as the weekend approaches.

Warm-Up Expected Friday Before Rain Hits This Weekend

Temperatures will begin to moderate by Friday, with daytime highs climbing into the 60s and even hitting the low 70s in some areas. However, the brief warm-up will end as a cold front sweeps through late Friday into Saturday, accompanied by an increase in rain chances for the weekend. The strong cold front is expected to bring cooler air by Sunday, with daytime highs dropping into the 50s and nighttime lows plunging into the 30s.

Wind and Waves: Marine Advisory for Lake Huron

Boaters should also be aware of a Small Craft Advisory that has been issued for parts of Lake Huron due to sustained northwest winds around 20 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots. These conditions are expected to persist into Wednesday, creating waves over four feet in some areas. Winds will ease as high pressure builds over the Great Lakes by Thursday, offering calmer conditions on the water.
