From Frost to Fire: Wisconsin’s Wild Weather Ride Starts Tonight!

Cold temperatures and patchy frost hit northern Wisconsin, while fire weather risks rise with low humidity and strong winds on the horizon.

Chilly Nights and Fire Weather Warnings for Wisconsin as Frost Advisory Hits

Green Bay — Issued by the National Weather Service at 10:46 PM on October 8, 2024.

Frost Advisory and Chilly Temperatures for Northern Wisconsin

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Frost Advisory for parts of northern and central Wisconsin, where temperatures are expected to drop into the lower 30s. The advisory is in effect until 9 AM Wednesday, with areas north and west of the Fox Valley most likely to experience frost. Skies are expected to remain mostly clear overnight, allowing for a significant temperature drop.

Patchy ground fog may also develop in low-lying areas, but the main concern is the frost, which could pose risks to sensitive plants. The clear skies will continue into Wednesday, with high temperatures ranging from the lower 60s in the far northern parts of the state to the upper 60s in central Wisconsin.

Fire Weather Risks Elevated Amid Drought and Dry Air

While frost is a concern overnight, the coming days will see a rise in fire weather conditions due to low relative humidity and ongoing drought conditions. Humidity levels will hover around 30 percent, and winds are expected to pick up later in the week, especially on Friday, when gusts of 20 to 30 mph could combine with dry conditions to create a high risk for wildfires.

The NWS warns that Friday could bring record or near-record high temperatures in the 70s and 80s, along with strong southwest winds as a cold front approaches the region.

Weekend Brings Cooling Temperatures and Snow Potential

The weekend will see a shift in the weather, with temperatures dropping below normal by Sunday and into early next week. The NWS indicates that parts of northern Wisconsin may see their first snowfall of the season, as cold air flows in from the northwest, dropping overnight lows into the upper 20s and low 30s.

Moderate precipitation is expected by Saturday night and into Sunday, with a chance for lake-effect snow in the Northwoods early next week.

If any fires are started here in Wisconsin, then it's from DEW like they are doing in Idaho, Maui and Paradise California...
