Jason Ross sentenced to life in prison without parole after being found guilty of the brutal 2021 murder of his girlfriend, Kathleen Hales.

In a chilling case of domestic violence, Jason Ross, 50, of Sterling Heights, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Kathleen Hales, 47. The sentence, handed down by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh, follows a guilty verdict from a Macomb County jury after a 10-day trial.

Details of the Murder: A Crime of Brutality

The murder occurred on July 24, 2021, when Ross violently attacked Hales in their Sterling Heights home. He repeatedly stabbed her and struck her with a hammer before fleeing the scene, taking her credit cards, prescription drugs, and her car. Authorities apprehended Ross in Prescott, Michigan, where he was found in possession of one of the murder weapons and Hales' belongings.

Ross was charged with multiple felonies, including First-Degree Murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence without parole. He was also convicted of Larceny from a Building, Unlawful Driving Away of a Motor Vehicle, and Stealing a Financial Transaction Device.

Prosecutor Condemns Brutality, Victim’s Family Seeks Justice

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido spoke out against the horrific crime, emphasizing the importance of justice in cases of extreme violence. "As a community, we cannot tolerate such acts of brutality," Lucido said. "This sentence ensures that justice is served for the victim, her family, and all those affected by this senseless violence. Our thoughts are with the loved ones who continue to grieve, and we hope this conviction brings them some measure of peace."
