Beach Day or Sweater Weather? Northeast Florida’s Wild Midweek Forecast!

Warm and dry conditions today in Northeast Florida, with cooler air arriving midweek. A high risk of rip currents and minor coastal flooding remain in effect.

Clear Skies and Warm Temperatures Today, but a Cold Front Will Bring Cooler Conditions by Midweek

JACKSONVILLE — Issued by the National Weather Service at 4:17 AM on October 14, 2024.

Warm and Dry Conditions Today Before Cooler Weather Arrives Midweek

Today, Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia will experience dry weather and clear skies as a mostly dry cold front approaches from the north. While morning fog may form over inland areas, it will quickly dissipate before mid-morning. Expect highs to reach the upper 80s, and some areas may even touch 90 degrees. Cooler temperatures will follow tonight, with lows dropping into the mid-50s for southeast Georgia and the mid-60s along the coast and north-central Florida.

Cooler Air and Winds Expected Midweek

A weak cool front will move through North Central Florida on Tuesday, followed by a secondary front on Tuesday night. This second front will usher in a much cooler and drier air mass. Expect highs in the upper 70s to low 80s on Tuesday, but by Wednesday, temperatures will fall significantly, with highs in the 60s to low 70s. Overnight lows on Wednesday night could drop into the 40s west of Brunswick and Middleburg.

Breezy north winds are also expected on Wednesday, especially along the Northeast Florida coastal areas, where winds could gust up to 30 mph.

Rip Current and Coastal Flooding Concerns Continue

A High Rip Current Risk remains in effect for the Northeast Florida beaches, with surf heights of 2 to 4 feet and low tide occurring around noon. Coastal flood warnings and advisories are also in place for parts of the St. Johns River Basin, where minor flooding is still possible.

A strong high-pressure system over the Appalachians later this week will combine with onshore winds, bringing the potential for minor coastal flooding to the area again.
