Cold Front Set to Bring Cooler Temperatures to Tampa Bay, Bradenton and Sarasota

Breezy winds and a drop in temperatures are forecasted for Tampa Bay as a cold front moves in midweek, bringing cooler and drier weather.

Noticeably cooler temperatures and dry conditions expected for Tampa Bay by midweek.

TAMPA — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:33 AM on October 14, 2024.

A cold front is expected to bring a significant drop in temperatures across Tampa Bay and surrounding areas, ushering in cooler, drier air by Wednesday, October 16. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the front will pass through the region starting Tuesday night, followed by brisk northeast winds that will continue through the week.

Cold Front Brings Relief from Heat, Drops Temps into the 70s

Residents across the Tampa Bay area can anticipate a welcome break from the lingering heat, with highs on Wednesday and Thursday predicted to range from the low to mid-70s in northern regions and low 80s further south. Cooler mornings will also provide relief, with Thursday lows dipping into the upper 40s in northern parts of the region and mid-60s toward the south.

By Friday, temperatures will begin to moderate slightly, but the cooler weather is expected to persist throughout the week, as strong surface high pressure builds north of Florida, reinforcing the northeast flow. Minimal rain chances are forecasted, except for the potential of isolated showers or storms in southwest Florida on Friday and Saturday.

Windy Conditions Expected as Cold Front Passes

As the cold front moves through, northeast winds are forecasted to strengthen, with gusts potentially reaching advisory levels by Wednesday night. Mariners should be cautious, as the winds will continue to impact the waters around Tampa Bay and the eastern Gulf of Mexico throughout the week.

Forecast for Tampa Bay: October 14–18

    • Monday: Sunny, high of 86°F, low of 70°F. Light winds from the northwest, no rain expected.
    • Tuesday: High of 86°F, low of 67°F. Breezy northeast winds by night.
    • Wednesday: Noticeably cooler, high of 75°F, low of 55°F. Windy, especially near the coast.
    • Thursday: High of 72°F, morning low in the 50s.
    • Friday: Highs in the mid-70s, isolated rain chances in the afternoon.
