A wave of cold air and moisture will push south from eastern Canada, bringing a mix of rain and wet snow to parts of Pennsylvania today, especially in the higher elevations. Rain showers will intensify in areas with more favorable conditions for lake effect precipitation, potentially leading to snow showers in areas where the temperature is cold enough. While no significant snow accumulation is expected during the day, the wet snow could coat colder, non-paved surfaces by tonight.
Daytime highs will remain chilly, with temperatures ranging from the mid-40s in the higher terrain to the mid-50s in the Susquehanna Valley. Winds will gust between 15 to 20 mph during the day, further adding to the wintry feel.
Frost and Freeze Concerns Overnight
As the day’s precipitation fades, clearing skies will bring concerns of frost and freeze conditions tonight. While higher elevations may see temperatures dip below freezing, lower areas of central Pennsylvania will likely experience patchy frost, especially where skies remain clear. Temperatures will drop into the low to mid-30s overnight.
Warmer Weather on the Horizon
Fortunately, the cold spell will be short-lived. High pressure building in from the west will bring sunny skies and warmer temperatures later in the week. By Friday, highs will climb back into the 60s, with even warmer weather expected through the weekend.
