Lauren Snyder, Consumers Energy’s vice president of customer experience, highlighted the importance of workplace charging in accelerating EV adoption. “We’re breaking down barriers that will help get EVs into driveways at home, to fast public chargers, and now, places where we work,” said Snyder. "Employers who are looking to attract and keep good workers now have another tool that will allow them to charge at work.”
The new program offers businesses a $7,500 rebate for installing two or more EV chargers, providing a significant boost for companies eager to meet growing employee demand for charging options. Surveys indicate that up to 75% of EV drivers are seeking the ability to charge at work. Businesses that make their charging stations available to the public can qualify for even larger rebates, expanding access to EV charging across both private and public spaces.
Michigan’s EV Transformation Accelerates with Workplace Charging
This announcement comes as Consumers Energy continues to push forward with its goal of fostering a cleaner, more sustainable Michigan. The company reports that the number of electric vehicles in its service area has tripled over the last four years, a clear sign of rising interest in EVs. As part of its broader efforts, Consumers Energy projects it will power 1,500 public fast-charging locations across the state by 2030, as EV adoption grows and Michigan moves toward a carbon-neutral energy future.
