    Critical Fire Conditions Sweep Across Central and Northeast South Dakota

    The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for central and northeastern South Dakota, in effect from 1 PM CDT (Noon MDT) to 7 PM CDT (6 PM MDT) today. A Fire Weather Watch follows for Thursday afternoon and evening, signaling high fire danger through the remainder of the week.

    High Winds and Low Humidity to Drive Fire Risk

    Strong southerly winds gusting up to 45 mph, combined with relative humidity near 20%, will create extreme fire danger across the following counties:
    McPherson, Brown, Marshall, Roberts, Edmunds, Day, Potter, Faulk, Spink, Clark, Codington, Grant, Hamlin, Deuel, Stanley, Sully, Hughes, Hyde, Hand, Jones, Lyman, and Buffalo.

    On Thursday, the fire threat will continue with winds of 20-30 mph and humidity levels between 20-30%. The potential for fast-spreading wildfires remains high.
