NWS Issues Hazardous Weather Outlook for the Region

Duluth, MNThe National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Residents are advised to prepare for foggy conditions tonight, hot and muggy weather on Friday, and potential thunderstorms over the weekend and early next week.

    Fog Development Tonight

The NWS forecasts the possibility of fog development tonight in areas of northwest Wisconsin and east-central Minnesota that experienced rainfall on Thursday. While reduced visibilities are expected in the fog, dense fog is not anticipated. Motorists should exercise caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility.

Hot and Muggy Conditions on Friday

Friday is predicted to be hot and muggy, with heat index values rising into the upper 80s to mid-90s. The combination of high temperatures and humidity may cause discomfort and increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

    Thunderstorm Potential Over the Weekend

Thunderstorm chances increase on Saturday and continue into early next week. Some storms in north-central Minnesota on Saturday may become strong to severe, posing risks such as strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning. It is important to stay updated with weather forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

    Safety Recommendations

    • For Fog: Drive cautiously, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for travel.
    • For Heat: Stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, take frequent breaks in the shade or air-conditioned spaces, and avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours.
    • For Thunderstorms: Monitor weather updates, secure outdoor objects, and seek shelter indoors during storms.

While Skywarn spotter activation is not anticipated tonight, residents should remain vigilant and report any severe weather occurrences to local authorities.
