    NWS Issues Hazardous Weather Outlook

Peachtree City, GAThe National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for North and Central Georgia, highlighting potential severe weather and heat risks for today and the coming week.

    Thunderstorm Threat Today

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. Some storms may become strong to severe, with the main threats being damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.

Heat Advisory for Eastern and Central Georgia

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 AM to 7 PM today for portions of Eastern and Central Georgia. High temperatures combined with high humidity will lead to heat index values that can cause heat-related illnesses. The affected areas should take precautions to stay cool and hydrated.

Extended Outlook: Continued Storms and Heat

The outlook for the coming days includes:

    • Saturday through Wednesday: Scattered thunderstorms are expected mainly in the afternoons and evenings. A few storms each day could become strong to severe, with risks of damaging winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall.
    • Elevated Heat Index Values: High heat index values are expected throughout the weekend, with the highest values (105 to 110 degrees) anticipated on Friday.

    Safety Recommendations

    • For Thunderstorms: Stay indoors during storms, avoid using electrical appliances, and do not take shelter under trees.
    • For Heat: Stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned environments, avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with chronic health conditions.

    Precautionary Measures

Residents should keep informed through local news, weather apps, and NOAA Weather Radio. While spotter activation is not anticipated tonight, it is important to stay alert and report any severe weather phenomena to local authorities.
