Thunderstorms Anticipated Across Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri; Severe Weather Unlikely

Quad Cities, IA — National Weather Service - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Quad Cities, Iowa, issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook early Monday morning, warning residents of potential thunderstorms in the region throughout the week. This advisory covers large portions of north central and northwest Illinois, as well as east central and southeast Iowa, northeast Missouri, and parts of northeast Iowa.

    Mild Thunderstorms Expected Today

The outlook for today, Monday, August 12, includes a chance of thunderstorms primarily affecting southeast Iowa, northeast Missouri, and west central Illinois. While residents might experience some rumbling and rain, severe weather is not expected to accompany these storms.

    Heavy Rainfall Likely Midweek

Looking ahead, the NWS forecasts an increased likelihood of thunderstorms from Wednesday night into Thursday across the covered regions. Although the risk of severe weather remains low, heavy rainfall could potentially cause localized flooding. The NWS advises residents to stay updated with weather alerts, especially those living in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

    No Spotter Activation Needed

The NWS does not anticipate the need for storm spotter activation at any point today or tonight. The general storm motion throughout the day is expected to be toward the east-southeast at speeds between 20 and 25 MPH.

    What to Do Next

Residents in the affected areas should prepare for potentially heavy rainfall later this week but can expect a relatively calm start to the week with only minor thunderstorms.
