Isolated Severe Storms Expected in Ohio and Pennsylvania Today

CLEVELAND, OH — Residents in northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania should brace for potential severe weather this afternoon, as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the region. The NWS warns of scattered thunderstorms, some of which could become strong to severe, bringing damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall.

The affected areas include major urban centers like Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, and surrounding counties, as well as regions in northwest Pennsylvania. “A few of these storms may be strong to severe with isolated damaging wind gusts possible," the NWS reported in its 10:28 a.m. update. Heavy rainfall accompanying the storms could also lead to flooding in low-lying and urban areas, especially where drainage systems may struggle to keep up with the downpours.

More Storms on the Horizon for Saturday

The threat of storms doesn’t end on Friday. The NWS warns that more thunderstorms are possible on Saturday afternoon, with a similar risk of strong storms and isolated damaging winds. Though the storms are not anticipated to be widespread, they could still pack a punch in areas that do experience severe weather.

Residents are advised to keep an eye on weather updates throughout the weekend, as rapidly changing conditions could bring wind damage and localized flooding in some spots.

Spotter Activation Not Expected, But Caution Advised

Despite the potential for severe weather, the NWS is not calling for spotter activation during this weather event. However, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any instances of significant weather or flooding to local authorities, particularly in areas vulnerable to flash flooding or wind damage.

As northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania prepare for possible severe storms, taking precautionary measures today could help mitigate the impacts of the stormy weekend ahead.
