Thunderstorms and Beach Hazards Set to Threaten the Region

Detroit, MIResidents of southeast Michigan should brace for a weekend of hazardous weather conditions, as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple warnings spanning from Saturday into Sunday.

    Thunderstorms Expected Saturday and Sunday

The NWS has reported that scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop across the region this afternoon and extend into the evening. While these storms are not expected to reach severe levels, they pose a risk of localized heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning. The forecast indicates that these non-severe storms may continue into Sunday afternoon and evening, potentially disrupting weekend plans across the area.

Communities including Midland, Bay, Huron, Saginaw, Tuscola, Genesee, Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, and others are advised to stay alert for changing conditions throughout the weekend.

Beach Hazards Along Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron

In addition to thunderstorms, the NWS has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Huron County, effective from Sunday morning through Sunday evening. The statement warns of hazardous swimming conditions along the shores of Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron, primarily due to strong currents that can pull swimmers into deeper waters.

"Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water," the NWS emphasized in their report. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to stay out of the water to avoid these dangerous conditions.

    No Spotter Activation Needed

According to the NWS, spotter activation will not be required for today or tonight. However, residents are urged to remain vigilant and monitor updates as conditions evolve over the weekend.
