Sunny skies and cooler nights to dominate the week, with a return of warmer, more humid conditions by the weekend.

Detroit, MI — Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:54 AM EDT on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Southeast Michigan Enjoys Gradual Warm-Up with Clear Skies and Cool Nights

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, Michigan, is forecasting a warming trend for the remainder of the week, with sunny skies and clear nights expected across the region. High temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid-70s today, reaching the upper 70s by Thursday and low 80s by Friday.

Despite the warmer days, clear skies at night will allow temperatures to drop into the upper 40s and low 50s through Thursday morning, bringing cool and comfortable overnight conditions to the area.

    Dry Weather Dominates the Week

High pressure building over the central Great Lakes will keep dry conditions in place through Friday, with light northwesterly winds and low humidity making for pleasant outdoor conditions. The National Weather Service expects no precipitation during this period, though there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms entering northern Lake Huron late Friday into Saturday.

The Great Lakes region will experience calm weather for the most part, with winds remaining light, peaking at 15 knots across Lake Huron today before decreasing as the high-pressure system settles in. Winds will shift to a southerly direction by Thursday and Friday, continuing the gradual warm-up.

Hotter, Humid Conditions to Return by Sunday

As the weekend approaches, a mid-level ridge is expected to shift toward the Southeast U.S., allowing hotter and more humid air to return to Southeast Michigan. By Sunday, temperatures will rise into the 80s, with Gulf moisture wrapping into the region, setting the stage for a potentially humid start to the following workweek.
