Detroit, MI — Starting this Saturday, August 24, as the Detroit Lions face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a preseason showdown, football fans will have an extra reason to cheer: the opportunity to register to vote. In a unique partnership with the Michigan Secretary of State, a mobile office will be set up at Ford Field on game days, offering voter registration and nonpartisan election information through October 27, aligning with the NFL Votes initiative.

The mobile office will be stationed at Pride Plaza before every home game, ensuring fans can take advantage of this civic opportunity while enjoying the excitement of live football.

The Lions' Civic Duty: Promoting Secure and Fair Elections

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson expressed her gratitude for the Detroit Lions' commitment to promoting democracy. “I’m grateful to the Detroit Lions for hosting our mobile office during games at Ford Field and for their ongoing partnership in supporting secure, fair elections,” said Benson. She emphasized that the Lions' dedication extends beyond their performance on the field, as they play a significant role in encouraging Michigan residents to exercise their right to vote.

By offering fans a chance to register to vote or update their voter information, the Lions are helping ensure that every Michigan citizen has a voice in upcoming elections. This effort aligns with their ongoing commitment to supporting voter engagement and election integrity.

    Lions' Leadership in Voter Engagement

The Detroit Lions have been leaders in voter engagement and nonpartisan election education since August 2020. Under the leadership of President and CEO Rod Wood, the team became the first NFL franchise to dedicate their arena and staff to support elections, working in conjunction with RISE to Vote and NFL Votes. This partnership has continued to flourish, and the Lions are now entering their fourth year of collaboration with the Michigan Department of State.

Rod Wood proudly stated, “We are honored to use our platform to support involvement in our democracy,” highlighting the importance of this initiative for the Lions organization. Their ongoing voter registration drive is a testament to their dedication to their fans and the broader Michigan community.

Voter Registration at Ford Field: How and When to Participate

Fans attending Lions home games this fall will find the Secretary of State mobile office at Pride Plaza before the following games and events:

    • Saturday, Aug. 24 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (preseason): 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. kickoff
    • Sunday, Sept. 8 vs. LA Rams: 5:20 p.m. – 8:20 p.m. kickoff
    • Sunday, Sept. 15 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. kickoff
    • Monday, Sept. 30 vs. Seattle Seahawks: 5:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. kickoff
    • Sunday, Oct. 27 vs. Tennessee Titans (#NFLVotes game): 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. kickoff

The mobile office will allow fans to register to vote, update their registration information, and receive nonpartisan election materials. This initiative continues to build on the successful voter education outreach that began earlier this year at Lions Training Camp.

Continuing the Legacy of Civic Engagement

The partnership between the Michigan Department of State and the Lions is a powerful reminder of the importance of civic engagement. In addition to voter registration at game days, Michigan citizens can always register to vote or update their registration online at Michigan.gov/Vote.

For those planning to attend the upcoming games, this initiative provides a convenient and timely opportunity to ensure they are prepared for the next election cycle.
