Intense Heat Wave and Severe Storm Threats Stretch Over Northern Ohio This Week 8/25

    2024-08-25

Isolated Storms and Triple-Digit Heat Indexes Predicted Early This Week

Byline: Cleveland — Issued by the National Weather Service at 5:47 AM EDT on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

CLEVELANDNorthern Ohio residents are being warned of potentially dangerous weather patterns this week, with isolated thunderstorms and a significant heat wave expected to impact the region starting today and continuing through Wednesday. The National Weather Service cautions that the most severe impacts could include strong wind gusts and heat indices exceeding 100 degrees.

Storms Could Bring Severe Winds Today

The National Weather Service advises that isolated thunderstorms are possible across North Central and Northwest Ohio this afternoon and early evening. While the storm chances are scattered, any thunderstorm that develops could produce strong to severe wind gusts, making it vital for residents to remain alert, particularly during peak hours in the late afternoon.

    Dangerous Heat Early This Week

The forecast predicts a sharp rise in temperatures beginning Monday, with highs expected to soar into the mid to upper 90s by Tuesday. Combined with increasing humidity, heat index values are forecasted to exceed 100 degrees across parts of North Central and Northwest Ohio on Tuesday and could potentially reach the same levels again on Wednesday.

Due to the dangerous conditions, Heat Advisories may be issued, and the National Weather Service is urging residents to take precautions to stay cool and avoid heat-related illnesses.

Thunderstorms Possible with Cold Front Midweek

A weak cold front may arrive by Tuesday night, bringing with it the potential for additional thunderstorms. While there is still uncertainty, any storms that develop could once again produce strong to severe wind gusts. The National Weather Service continues to monitor the situation closely and encourages residents to stay updated on the evolving weather conditions throughout the week.
