    Gusty Winds and Heavy Rain Expected, but Severe Storms Unlikely

    INDIANAPOLIS — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:27 AM on August 31, 2024.

    Storms to Sweep Across Central Indiana

    Residents across central Indiana should be prepared for scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, with a chance of isolated storms lingering into the evening, particularly in the southern parts of the region. Affected areas include Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Henry, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, Rush, Sullivan, Greene, Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Knox, Daviess, Martin, Lawrence, Jackson, and Jennings counties.

    Expect Gusty Winds and Heavy Rain

    While severe storms are not anticipated, any storm that develops today could bring lightning, gusty winds, heavy rain, and small hail. The National Weather Service advises residents to remain cautious, especially during outdoor activities, as storms can produce sudden and dangerous weather conditions.

    Thunderstorm Chances Return Later in the Week

    Looking ahead, thunderstorm chances are expected to return on Thursday into Friday. However, spotter activation will not be necessary for these weather events at this time.
