    Storms Could Bring Damaging Winds and Flash Flooding to the Region Today

    Residents across north central North Carolina, northwest North Carolina, central Virginia, south central Virginia, southwest Virginia, west central Virginia, and southeast West Virginia should prepare for scattered thunderstorms developing this afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg, Virginia, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, indicating a Marginal Risk for severe weather, including localized damaging winds and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.

    The NWS highlights that while the probability of widespread hazardous weather remains low, the potential for localized severe storms exists, primarily during the afternoon and evening hours. These storms may bring sudden gusts of wind strong enough to cause minor damage, as well as downpours capable of producing flash flooding in vulnerable areas.

    The advisory covers a broad region including parts of Ashe, Alleghany, Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties in North Carolina; Tazewell, Smyth, Bland, Giles, Wythe, Pulaski, Montgomery, Grayson, Carroll, Floyd, Craig, Alleghany, Bath, Roanoke, Botetourt, Rockbridge, Patrick, Franklin, Bedford, Amherst, Henry, Pittsylvania, Campbell, Appomattox, Buckingham, Halifax, and Charlotte counties in Virginia; and Mercer, Summers, Monroe, Eastern Greenbrier, and Western Greenbrier counties in West Virginia.
