Heavy Rain and Storms Expected Across the Region: Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued

Rain and Storms to Impact Southern Illinois, Southwest Indiana, Western Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri

PADUCAH — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:01 AM on September 12, 2024.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri as a weather system brings chances of storms and heavy rain to the region today and into the weekend.

Today and Tonight: Storms with Heavy Rain Expected

Beginning late today and continuing through tonight, areas across Jefferson, Wayne IL, Edwards, Wabash, Perry IL, Franklin, Hamilton, White, Jackson, Williamson, Saline, Gallatin, Union, Johnson, Pope, Hardin, Alexander, Pulaski, Massac, and parts of southwest Indiana and western Kentucky, will see increased chances for thunderstorms. The primary threat from these storms will be heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Weekend Outlook: Continued Storm Activity and Rainfall

Storm chances will persist through the weekend, with heavy rain remaining the main hazard across the affected areas. Forecasts indicate that the region will experience periods of intense rainfall, increasing the potential for flooding in areas prone to water accumulation. Residents should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and the possibility of hazardous travel due to wet roads and reduced visibility.

Precautionary Measures: Monitor Conditions and Avoid Flood-Prone Areas

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and be mindful of changing conditions. Avoid traveling through flooded areas and exercise caution on roads that could become slippery and waterlogged.

    Spotter Information Statement

At this time, activation of storm spotters and emergency management teams is not anticipated. However, residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any severe weather or flooding incidents to local authorities.
