Central and Western Upper Michigan brace for brief but intense thunderstorms this evening, bringing heavy rain to some areas.

Thunderstorms Could Bring Sudden Rain to Upper Michigan

[MARQUETTE] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:56 PM EDT on September 16, 2024.

[H1] Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected This Evening

Residents of Central and Western Upper Michigan, including Keweenaw, Ontonagon, Northern Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Gogebic, Iron, and Southern Houghton areas, should prepare for possible thunderstorms this evening. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, there is a slight chance of thunderstorms tonight, with the primary concern being brief periods of heavy rain.

These storms are expected to be short-lived but could result in localized downpours. Drivers are advised to be cautious, as heavy rain could lead to reduced visibility and slippery roads, making travel conditions hazardous.

[H1] Quiet Weather Ahead for the Rest of the Week

After tonight’s brief weather threat, the outlook for the rest of the week appears calm. From Tuesday through Sunday, no hazardous weather is anticipated across the region. This period of stable weather provides a welcome respite from the thunderstorms expected tonight.

The NWS does not anticipate the need for weather spotter activation during this time. However, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any severe weather conditions should they arise unexpectedly.
