    Traditional Ingredients in Tzatziki Sauce

The classic tzatziki sauce is made from a few simple ingredients: Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and fresh dill. The Greek yogurt gives the sauce its creamy texture, while the cucumber adds a refreshing crunch. Garlic and lemon juice add the must have tang, while the olive oil adds richness. Fresh dill enhances the flavor, but other herbs like mint or parsley can also be incorporated.

How to Make Tzatziki Sauce at Home

As mentioned before, Tzatziki sauce can be used on many different dishes, it is very popular with falafel, gyros, and even as a spread for sandwiches. We make it at home all the time. It's super easy to make and perfect and refreshing for summer meals.

    Ingredients you will need:

    • ½ cup grated mini or English cucumber with skin on
    • 1 cup whole milk Greek yogurt
    • 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
    • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
    • 1 large garlic clove minced
    • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
    • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
    • 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh mint

Follow these two super simple steps:

First: Grate the cucumber using the largest holes on a box grater. Place the grated cucumber between two paper towels and squeeze out as much of the water as possible. This is very important so that the sauce is creamy and not watery.

Second: Mix everything together! Combine the cucumber with yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, salt, and herbs. Chill until ready to serve.
