Difference Between Paprika and Smoked Paprika is the Secret Ingredient

Smoked paprika, often referred to as pimentón, is a vibrant spice that originates from Spain. It is made by drying chili peppers over wood fires, this process permeates the paprika with a distinct smoky flavor that sets it apart from sweet and hot paprika. The rich, smoky aroma that smoked paprika has is the key element in traditional Spanish dishes, such as chorizo and paella.

Step-by-Step Recipe for Smoked Paprika Roasted Potatoes

To create these smoked paprika roasted potatoes, simply gather the ingredients and follow the instructions.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 pounds of baby potatoes (Yukon Gold, Red or Russet potatoes would work too)
    • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
    • 2 teaspoons of smoked paprika
    • 1 teaspoon of salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). While the oven is heating, wash the potatoes thoroughly to remove any dirt. You can peel the potatoes if you prefer, but leaving the skins on adds additional texture and flavor. Cut the potatoes into even-sized pieces, approximately 1-inch cubes, so that the potatoes bake consistently.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Add the potato pieces to the bowl and toss them until they are evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
    3. Spread the seasoned potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Roast the potatoes for 25-30 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time for even browning.
    4. To check if they are done, pierce a potato with a fork; it should be tender inside and golden-brown with a crispy on the outside.

    Serving and Storage

These simple smoked paprika oven-baked potatoes to go alongside burgers, grilled or braised meats, or even as a tasty addition to a roasted or sauteed mixed vegetable plate for a vegetarian meal. They also taste delicious when mixed or served with eggs for breakfast or brunch!

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, spread the potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet and warm them in a 375°F (190°C) oven for about 10 minutes to retain their crispiness.
