    Introduction to Fresh Figs

Figs, with their distinct teardrop shape, are a unique fruit. They are roughly the size of a thumb, packed with numerous small seeds, and encased in an edible peel that can be either purple or green. The interior flesh of the fruit is pink and offers a subtly sweet flavor. Ficus carica is the scientific designation for the fig.

Fresh figs are not only low in calories but also rich in various vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, dried figs, while still nutritious, are higher in sugar and calories.

It's Fig Season! Figs have a short season and they are usually difficult to find. Recently, we've seen them at Trader Joe's, Costco and Sam's Club. So naturally, we stocked up on. We love enjoying them raw in salads or as a cheese platter addition.

Domestic fresh figs have two distinct seasons; the "breba" season begins in the first few weeks of June, and the "new wood" season usually extends from August to October. The Black Mission fig is the most prevalent variety, succeeded by the Brown Turkey fig and the Green Kadota fig, respectively.

To prepare this delicious banana fig protein shake, you will need the following ingredients:
