This recipe is essentially a version of a Monte Cristo Sandwich. Which is basically the ultimate ham and cheese experience! Imagine French Toast stuffed with ham and cheese, then pan-fried in butter until it’s golden and the cheese is all melty.

This recipe is slightly different, it is pan-fried and then baked to ensure that the cheese is melted and the ham is heated through.

This stuffed French toast is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or really any time you’re craving something delicious!

    Ingredients for this recipe:

    • 4 eggs
    • ¾ cup whole milk
    • 4 slices of 1 ½-inch thick brioche bread
    • 4 slices honey baked ham
    • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
    • 4 slices Swiss cheese
    • 1 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt and black pepper
    • Maple Syrup
    • Powdered Sugar

    How to make this recipe:

Start by putting the sliced brioche in the fridge overnight to let it get a little stale.

When you're ready to make the stuffed French toast, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

In a big mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Take a sharp knife and carefully cut a pocket into each slice of bread, leaving about half an inch around the edges.

Spread a teaspoon of mustard on one side of each pocket, then gently tuck in a slice of ham and cheese. Do this for all the brioche slices.

Arrange all the stuffed brioche in a shallow dish and pour the egg mixture over them. Let them soak for a minute, flipping each piece once.

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add half of the olive oil.

Once the oil is hot, add two of the stuffed pockets to the pan and cook each side until they’re golden brown, about 2 minutes. Take them out and place them on a baking sheet. Do the same with the rest of the oil and stuffed pockets.

Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Take it out of the oven, drizzle with maple syrup, and dust with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
