This cheesecake cake is super easy to make, and that's mainly because it's made with boxed cake mix. There are many ways cake mix can be doctored up and no one will know. Creating recipes that use cake mix is a fantastic starting point for anyone new to baking!

    Ingredients you will need:

    For the cake:

    • 1 box chocolate cake
    • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 3/4 cups water
    • 1 cup sour cream
    • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
    • shortening for greasing the pan

    For the cheesecake:

    • 8 ounces cream cheese, cold
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 1/2 cups crushed Oreos

RECIPE NOTES: Make sure you use shortening like Crisco, to grease the bundt pan. You can also dust the pan with flour or cocoa powder for an extra barrier to prevent sticking. If for some reason the cake does not come out perfectly, repurpose it by turning it into a trifle. We had to do this occasion with bundt cakes.

    How to make this cake:

Start by preheating your oven to 350° F. Use a large bundt pan and give it a good coating of Crisco or any non-stick spray with flour. This step is crucial for making sure your cake comes out easily!

In a big mixing bowl, toss together the cake mix, cocoa powder, eggs, oil, water, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Stir everything until it’s fully blended, then set it aside.

In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with an egg, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until it’s smooth. Fold in the crushed Oreos.

Pour about a third of the cake batter into the bottom of your prepared bundt pan, making sure to cover all the little nooks. Spread the Oreo cheesecake mixture evenly on top of that, then pour the rest of the cake batter over the cheesecake layer.

Bake it in the oven for 45-55 minutes at 350° F. Keep in mind that baking times can vary depending on your oven and pan. To check if it’s done, stick a toothpick or thin knife in the cake; if it comes out clean, the cake is done!

Let the cake cool for 15-20 minutes, then carefully run a knife around the edges to help it release. To flip it out, place a plate on top of the cake and gently turn it over using both hands. Let it cool completely before serving. Enjoy!
