Tello Agrees to Terms with Philadelphia Phillies
IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa redshirt junior Raider Tello has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Phillies. The El Monte, California, native led the team hitting .357 in 54 games this season. Tello notched 79 hits, 19 doubles, four triples, and seven home runs. He plated 60 RBIs and scored 51 runs. Tello appeared in 113 career games for Iowa over two seasons with a .335 batting average. He recorded 155 hits, scored 98 runs, hit 33 doubles and had 11 home runs. An Iowa telepharmacy company faces allegations in a civil lawsuit that it sold counterfeit Ozempic, the high-demand weight-loss drug, to a Michigan company. Wintrust Business Minute: John Deere is planning for more layoffs
Steve Grzanich has the business news of the day with the Wintrust Business Minute. Farm machinery maker Deere & Co. is planning more layoffs. The Moline-based company has notified salaried employees there’ll be additional global salaried workforce reductions beginning July 24th. The company says the decision is due to declining customer demand, rising costs, and prevailing economic uncertainties. Deere recently announced hundreds of layoffs of production workers in Dubuque, Davenport and East Moline. Meanwhile, the company has announced it will no longer participate in “cultural awareness parades” after being criticized by a right leaning commentator for funding a Pride event.
Crews continue working to clear trees in Davenport after tornado
City crews in Davenport and Bettendorf have been working non-stop to clear fallen trees, power lines, and debris after Monday night’s tornado. Scott County Emergency Management Deputy Director Jim Hawkes says the EF-1 tornado, which was on the ground for eight miles, left a tangle in its wake. “There’s a lot of tree damage, a lot of powerline damage. The cities are dealing a lot with trees that are tangled up in powerlines and they’ve been unable to clean them up,” he says. As of this morning, power has been restored to most of the area.
