Cedar Rapids prepares as river expected to hit moderate flood stage on Saturday
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Officials from the National Weather Service (NWS) have updated their projections regarding potential flooding in Cedar Rapids. Officials say that the action stage for the Cedar River is 10 feet and that minor flood stage is 12 feet. The river was expected to crest at 13.4 feet on Thursday, but now officials say it is predicted to reach 14.5 feet on Saturday.

North Linn Street gains a new cafe with a locally sourced, organic menu
Iowa City’s newest cafe, Kindred Coffee, opened on June 19. The cafe now resides at the former brick-and-mortar for Tru Coffee, 287 N Linn St. Owners Molly Kirby and Connor Jenkins plan for Kindred Coffee to set itself apart from other Iowa City shops through their plant-focused menu, dedication to low waste, and sourcing their ingredients locally. The cafe has been awarded a climate action grant by the City of Iowa City for its reusable food and coffee container program.
Cedar Rapids man charged with burglarizing Iowa City building
A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested for allegedly burglarizing an Iowa City building last year. According to the criminal complaint, 27-year-old Brodey Long of Fruitwood Lane NW and his accomplices broke into the building on the 100 block of Commerce Drive on June 29th just before 9pm. The suspects were allegedly captured on surveillance video scouting the location, staging a vehicle outside, and stealing tools and equipment. They reportedly took between $3000 and $5000 worth of equipment during three trips from the building, which houses three different businesses.
Body Found In Backseat Of Iowa Woman’s Crashed Car In Minnesota
(North Liberty, IA) — An Iowa woman is in custody in Minnesota after police found a body in the backseat of a crashed car. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash Saturday on interstate-90 near Rochester and found 32-year-old Margot Lewis of North Liberty, Iowa, standing next to the vehicle. Police then discovered the body of 35-year-old Liara Tsai of Minneapolis in the backseat, wrapped in blood covered blankets.
