An investigation is underway regarding a man who is believed to have stabbed his mother several times Friday afternoon, July 12, in Tigard.

Officers were called to the Meadow Creek Apartments on Southwest North Dakota Street at 12:54 p.m. after learning that a 48-year-old woman reported to a neighbor that she had been stabbed by her son.

“She was taken to the hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. While officers were on scene, the 28-year-old suspect called 911 from a nearby business to turn himself in,” the Tigard Police Department said in a statement.

Police believe the stabbing occurred in the woman’s apartment, with her son then walking to a commercial area where he was arrested.

He is expected to be booked into the Washington County Jail on charges including first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

With several witnesses in the area at the time of the incident, Tigard police are asking anyone who heard or saw something to call the nonemergency number of 503-629-0111.

The names of those involved are not being released at this time, while officers work to contact additional family members.

While not connected, this was the second stabbing in Tigard in a week.

On Sunday, July 7, Diego Armando Gonzalez-Hernandez, 22, allegedly stabbed another individual several times at the Tigard Transit Center. He was arrested a short time later in Sherwood.
