Amherst property owner charged with harboring felon during standoff pleads not guilty
STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) - A 61-year-old Amherst man charged with harboring a felon following a two-day stand-off at his home says he’s not guilty. Ed Deyo was one of five people arrested at a home on Mill Street in Amherst on July 25. Initially, all five faced charges of harboring a fugitive. However, charges have been dismissed for four people including Chrissy Miller. Only the criminal case for Deyo has moved forward.

Flags will fly at half-staff Monday in honor of a La Crosse area WWII POW. Gov. Evers signed Executive Order #236 Friday, ordering flags to half-staff in honor of Sgt. Jack Hohlfeld. Hohlfeld’s remains were accounted for in May of this year. After being subjected to the Bataan Death March, Sgt. Hohlfeld died on December 26, 1942, while being held captive at a POW camp in the Philippines. He was born in Vernon County and grew up in both Trempealeau and La Crosse Counties.
