Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce hosts annual Kid’s Day

TILLMANS CORNER, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce hosted their 11th annual Kid’s Day at the Tillman’s Corner Community Center on Saturday.

The Chamber’s mission is to prepare the community for the upcoming school year. This year, 1,300 backpacks that were given out, along with free school supplies, and 400 uniforms.

“To see so many kids really need the resources, it’s just amazing. I think the haircuts have been the most coveted event today, but you know, they can get ready for school,” Executive Director of Southwest Mobile Co. Chamber, Tina Poiroux, said. “They have their haircuts, backpacks, uniforms, health exams, you name it. They are ready.”

The community also came out for some family fun with activities such as a petting zoo, bouncy house, a mechanical bull, and more.

“It’s a nice day for the kids to come out, enjoy different activities, and learn, and meet different people,” local resident, Sonja Clemons said. “We appreciate everything that the community is doing for the kids going back to school, because a lot of parents is not able to do some of the things for the kids.”

The chamber thanks their sponsor, and the 120 volunteers.

“I look forward to this event every year. What they put together here is amazing for the community. I love being a part of it. Evonik, we have a booth here and every year we try to give away something fun for the kids that’s school related,” volunteer, Jessica Ellis said.
