TILTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A village in Vermilion County has cut off the number of marijuana-related businesses within its limits.

The village unanimously approved an ordinance to limit the number of licenses to one craft growing license and one dispensary at their meeting last week. One company was trying to open another dispensary in town.

“We are a town of 2,700 residents and we already have one dispensary,” Billy Wear, the Tilton mayor said in an email to WCIA. “I feel that there is a limited number of people that partake in their use, and that we as a board need to make business decisions on what benefits the greatest number of citizens in our town, and the people that we rely on to support our businesses.”

Wear said all trustees had voiced their personal reasons for voting against the measure. The permit changes will be written up by the village’s attorney.
