TxDOT launches Drunk Driving Campaign ahead of Labor Day Weekend
HOUSTON (KIAH) – Labor Day weekend has begun, a time to celebrate the end of summer with friends. Although this weekend is supposed to be a relaxing occasion, we want to make sure everyone is drinking responsibly and being safe. Ninth consecutive day with triple digit heat
We had yet another scorching hot day in the High Plains. Temps reached the 100s this afternoon. In Amarillo, today marks the 9th consecutive day with temperatures in the 100s! This has now become the longest streak of triple digit heat in Amarillo history. The days were from August 16 to August 24. Since we are tracking triple digit heat, we do have a Heat Advisory in effect until 8 p.m. CDT for Palo Duro Canyon State Park and a few eastern counties in the combined Panhandles. Make sure to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities to the early morning and late evening hours.
Cooler Temperatures on the Way
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Happy Saturday! Today will be the last day with temperatures in triple digit range! While a couple of small quick-lasting showers will be possible late today, most of us will stay dry. Temperatures for Sunday will be back down into the upper 90′s before we will see temperatures more in the low to mid 90′s range going into the next work week, perhaps with some rain/storm chances returning during the middle part of the week.

Randall County Jail expansion on track to be completed in December
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Randall County Jail expansion project is over halfway complete as construction continues for the two new pods. “The original facility has been open since 2001 and so as we’ve seen growth, we’ve seen increase in crimes, and so the number of people that need to be in jail has increased,” said Chief Deputy Hank Blanchard, Randall County Sheriff’s Office.
City Council to Discuss AEDC Controversy During Closed-Door Meeting
Amarillo City Council will hold an executive session meeting on August 27th to discuss recent controversies related to the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation. The controversy is in regards to $750,000 of AEDC funds which were wired to the RANGE Foundation, despite only $100,000 being budgeted. Texas Lake Rescues Adorable Orphan Dolphin
A nonprofit program dedicated to marine mammal conversation known as the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network or TMMSN recently assisted individuals with rescuing an orphan dolphin that had been seen by itself on the Texas coast according to Your Basin. This was a young female dolphin that was landlocked in the power lake, which is located near San Antonio Bay on Matagorda Island.
