New administrative team announced at Eagle Mountain Elementary
The Batesville School District has announced the appointment of a new principal and vice principal at Eagle Mountain Elementary. Mychelle Spivey (pictured above, left) has been appointed principal of Eagle Mountain Elementary. Spivey earned a specialist degree in education principalship from Arkansas State University in August 2018 and a master’s degree in educational theory and practice from Arkansas State University in August 2014. Her educational journey began at Lyon College in Batesville, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education and history in May 2011.
Pine Bluff School District plans to sell old office center, schools
Pine Bluff School District officials are planning to sell the district's former administration building and two elementary schools. Members of the PBSD board facilities committee met Tuesday morning for a work session to discuss advertising for the best offers on the old multistory administration building on Sixth Avenue, as well as Indiana Street and Oak Park elementary schools. Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree explained selling the campuses would help the district eliminate the costs of insurance and upkeep for the facilities, which have been closed for years, as well as remove its liability for homeless people who she said continues to break into elementary schools.

Arkansas LHP Stone Hewlett signs free agent deal with Angels
Arkansas left-handed pitcher Stone Hewlett signed a free agent deal with the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday after going undrafted in the 2024 MLB Draft. Hewlett appeared 23 times out of the bullpen for the Razorbacks as a senior after spending his first three years with the Kansas Jayhawks. The Leawood (Kan.) native posted a 1-0 record with an ERA of 3.46 across 13 innings of work while allowing six hits and eight walks with 23 strikeouts.
