Thirty teams have earned spots in the newly expanded Section 9 baseball tournament, with the addition of a Class AAA division. The top seeds are Pine Bush in Class AAA, Wallkill in Class AA, Marlboro in Class A, Chester in Class B, Pine Plains in Class C and Chapel Field in Class D.
The tournament begins on Monday, May 20, and concludes with six finals at the Cantine Field complex in Saugerties on Saturday, May 25.
In the 2023 finals, No. 6 Kingston beat No. 1 Warwick in Class AA; No. 1 Wallkill beat No. 2 Cornwall in Class A; No. 3 Spackenkill beat No. 1 Chester in Class B (the Spartans have won the past two years); No. 2 Burke Catholic beat No. 1 Pine Plains in Class C; and, No. 1 Chapel Field beat No. 3 Eldred in Class D (the Lions have won the past two years).
Section 9 champs will have to win three or four playoff games to claim a state championship. The semifinals and finals will be June 7-8 in the Binghamton region (Mirabito Stadium; Binghamton University; and Union-Endicott High School).

In the 2023 state playoffs, Kingston lost to Roy C. Ketcham in the opening round of AA; Wall won once before bowing to Walter Panas in the A quarterfinals; Spackenkill bowed to Albertus Magnus in the opening round of B; Burke fell to Tuckahoe in the opening round of C; and, Chapel Field won three games for the D state title, beating Northstar Christian 3-2 in the finals .
