MONTICELLO - A Monticello man has been charged with reckless endangerment and weapon possession after he allegedly fired a gun across a courtyard at the Monticello Housing Authority apartment complex on Evergreen Drive last month.

Village of Monticello police said the shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. July 30. Police said numerous children were playing in the courtyard at the time of the shooting, but neither they nor anyone else was hit by any bullets.

According to police, Jahriek Tomlinson, 22, of Monticello, knowingly and recklessly fired shots from a 9-millimeter handgun across the apartment complex courtyard from a vehicle at 6:17 p.m. July 30.

Following a police investigation into the shooting, Tomlinson was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.

He was arraigned before Monticello Village Justice Douglas Solomon and sent to the Sullivan County jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bail bond or $200,000 insurance bond, pending further court action.

The name of Tomlinson's attorney was not immediately available,

The Sullivan County District Attorney's office, Village of Liberty police, and the state police's Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team all assisted Monticello police with the investigation.
