Mid-Hudson region will see showers and thunderstorms through the weekend

A rainy weekend is in store for the mid-Hudson region, and the National Weather Service said that probably will include some thunderstorms.

But the rain will be sporadic rather than constant, and a stormy Saturday and Sunday will be preceded by a sunny Friday, with high temperatures in the 80s across the region.

The clouds will roll in overnight Friday, and they will greet area residents as they wake up Saturday morning.

However, there is a relatively low chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day on Saturday - 30% in Dutchess and Ulster counties, 40% in Orange County and 50% in Sullivan County. High temperatures will be in the low 80s in Orange, Ulster and Dutchess counties, and the low 70s in Sullivan County.

The chance for showers and thunderstorms increases to 60% in Orange, Ulster and Dutchess counties on Saturday night, and 70% in Sullivan County. Skies will remain mostly cloudy and temperatures will fall into the 60s.

On Sunday, there is a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms across the region, especially after 2 p.m. High temperatures will be in the 70s.

On Sunday night, there is a 60% chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm across the region, with temperatures falling into the 60s again.

The National Weather Service said the chances for showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Monday.
