Big Lots is closing even more stores in New York, including these in the mid-Hudson Valley

Four of the six Big Lots stores in the region are now scheduled to close.

As of Thursday, the Big Lots website was listing the stores in Middletown and Kingston among those scheduled to close as the chain goes through Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 in September.

Previously, the Poughkeepsie store had been the only local store expected to close.

The Wappingers Falls Big Lots did not have a "closing" label on its website as of Thursday afternoon, but the store was listed in a recent court filing .

That would leave the Big Lots stores in Newburgh and Saugerties as the only local survivors in the chain.

Closure of Big Lots stores formed part of a sale agreement with an affiliate of Nexus Capital Management LP, according to a press release issued by Big Lots last month.

Nexus agreed to acquire substantially all of the company's assets and ongoing business operations.

Big Lots said in that release that while most of its stores are profitable, "We will need to close certain locations to ensure that our business operates efficiently and we can continue serving our customers."
