Army climbs two spots in AP Top 25 polls to No. 21 despite having bye week

A little rest is good for the soul, for the body and, apparently, the polls.

Army enjoyed a bye week and still moved up two spots in the latest AP Top 25 college football poll. The Black Knights , idle ahead of next Saturday's service academy clash with Air Force, climbed two spots to No. 21.

The Black Knights are the only team from the American Athletic Conference in the Top 25. Navy fell out after two weeks following a crushing 37-point loss to Notre Dame at MetLife Stadium on Saturday. Also falling out of the poll was Vanderbilt after just one week.

The top four teams remain Oregon, Georgia, Penn State and Ohio State. Miami moved ahead of Texas for No. 5, the Hurricanes achieving their highest ranking since 2017.

Army also moved up two spots in the AFCA coaches poll, from No. 23 to No. 21. Missouri, down six spots to No. 23, and Illinois, down three spots to No. 24, cleared the way for the idle Black Knights. Navy dropped from No. 24 to No. 30.

Army just missed making the Football Writers Association of America Super 16 poll, coming in at No. 21, with two votes. The FWAA top six mirrors the AP results.

Army and Air Force meet at noon Saturday on CBS.
